Whether you’re planting your first citrus tree or caring for an established one, you’ll leave with simple, confidence-boosting tips for desert-friendly success.

We’ll explore strategies like positioning shade trees and structures, using mulch and groundcovers, creating wind protection, and incorporating other landscape elements that reduce heat stress and improve growing conditions. Whether you want to conserve water, extend your growing season, or create more enjoyable outdoor living spaces, you’ll leave with practical, desert-smart ideas to make the most of your garden.

About Adriane Hopkins – Butterfly Expert & Educator:
Adriane Hopkins, a lifelong butterfly enthusiast, has lived in Arizona since 1988. A Master Gardener, she has designed and built more than 30 butterfly gardens and educates schools, garden clubs, and organizations worldwide about creating habitats that support butterflies and other pollinators. She has also led butterfly tours to Costa Rica and Mexico.

A former journalist and educator, Adriane has written extensively on butterflies and continues to share her passion through garden design, education, and community outreach. She serves on the board of the Southwest Monarch Study and is a member of CAzBA. In her free time, she enjoys photographing cars and butterflies and swimming long distances in the ocean.

His gardening passions include plumerias, adeniums, all edible plants and fruit trees—including a wide variety of tropical fruits growing in his back yard. His front yard is a certified National Wildlife Habitat & Native Pollinator Garden.
