Wondering What You Should Be Doing In Your Garden?

Below is a calendar of key things you can be doing in your garden during the month of May.

Early May

  • Fertilize lawns
  • Clean the birdbath thoroughly.  Depending on how many birds enjoy your birdbath, you should be cleaning it 2-3 times per week.

Mid-May

  • Plant summer flowers: Salvia, Zinnias, Sunflowers
  • Watch for Aphids and other pests
  • Happy Mother's Day! - May 12
  • Fertilize indoor plants
  • For safety precautions and before it’s too warm, prune back branches of trees that hang over structures.

Late May

  • Plant late summer edibles: pumpkins, winter squash, carrots, beets
  • Fertilize veggies
  • Deadhead Azaleas, Rhodies, Camellias, and fertilize them
  • Check irrigation to insure it is working for summer heat
  • Treat Grubs now to keep them from getting out of control in the fall
  • Watch for powdery mildew due to warm days and cool nights
  • Happy Memorial Day
